Things to do in Tamarindo

Zip lining is a must on any Costa Rican adventure. Soaring through the tree tops, spotting Howler Monkeys, Capuchin Monkeys, sloths and wide variety of birds in their natural habitat is not only memorable but exhilarating.  The zip line course at Witch’s Rock allows you to see through the dense forest out to the Pacific Ocean, a remarkable scene and one you shouldn’t miss.

Surf Playa Tamarindo

Playa Tamarindo is one of the best known and renowned surfing spots in all of Costa Rica. Perfect waves for beginners and some more challenging waves for more experienced surfers, Tamarindo is a surfers mecca and whether you want to catch some waves or just watch others shred, this is beach town you don’t want to mess.

Horseback Riding

There are few things more magical than exploring the jungles and the beaches of Costa Rica on horseback. Companies offer 2 hour tours up to full day or multi-day excursions for those that want to truly explore on horseback all that this beautiful region has to offer.

Jet Skiing

For the more fast-paced adventurer jet skiing is a fun and exciting way to enjoy the clear, warm waters of the Pacific coast. Many tour companies rent out jet skies by the hour or for the day so hop on and explore the coastline and the different beaches throughout Guanacaste.

Enjoy Costa Rican Cuisine

After zip lining, surfing, hiking or jet skiing you’ll probably have worked up an appetite so refuel at a local restaurant serving Costa Rican fare. Costa Rica restaurants, also known as sodas serve up typical dishes consisting of rice and beans, chicken, beef or fresh fish, sides of fried plantains and yucca and other local vegetables. Try arroz con pollo or chifrijo, or simply order a casado, the plate of the day!

Discover Traditional Costa Rican Artisanship

Stop by a local market or go into a small store and find the perfect keepsake or present for a friend by a local Costa Rican artist. Costa Rican works of art include intricately carved wooden pieces, brightly painted ceramics depicting parrots, butterflies and other Costa Rican wildlife. Beautiful jewelry using local materials also make great souvenirs.

Study Spanish

Take the opportunity during your visit to learn some Spanish or brush up on what you might know from the past. Take a language course at one of the many schools in the area or find a one on one tutor and get to know a local teacher. Knowing a bit of Spanish will help you make friends and further enjoy your time in Costa Rica.
