Hello everybody! Hope you are feeling great and already on your way to Costa Rica! Today’s blog post is going to be about which tours you just can’t miss when you are here in Costa Rica. Here at Iguana we have all kinds of Tamarindo Tours and you should really do at least one of them because there is so many Things to Do in Tamarindo. Whereas you are into adrenaline, nature, animals, water or something calm we have just the right tour for you! Below I am going to list the five tours I think are the best and that you get the most out of doing.

Tamarindo Sunset Cruise [/cmsmasters_heading][cmsmasters_text animation_delay=”0″]

The first tour I am going to tell you about is a tour that is great for everyone, young people, families, solo travelers, everyone. You leave the beach at 1 pm and take a small boat out to the catamaran where you are going to spend the next hours. At the catamaran there is an open bar who serves you delicious drinks all evening, I can especially recommend the Piña Colada with fresh pineapple, it tastes amazing and is so refreshing but Ofcourse they also serve the local beer imperial. When everyone is on the boat (roughly around 30 people) they drive you away from Tamarindo Beach to a great snorkeling place just a couple minutes away. On the boat ride you talk to the others, enjoy the drinks and exchange experiences with other people, or if you want just hang out with your own family and friends you can do that as well. When the boat stops it is snorkeling time! Borrow some goggles and begin! You can see a lot of fish of all different kind at this spot. The water is super refreshing as always and it is a lot of fun just jumping from the boat and swim around. Swim all the way to the close by beach if you want, the boat stops quite close. After some swimming and snorkeling it is time for dinner. As always in Costa Rica, rice and beans is served with some kind of other protein like chicken and chips, fresh fruit and some cookies for dessert if you want to. It is a buffet and trust me, after the swim you are really wanting that food. After dinner you can do a little of whatever you want before the boats starts to go back to Tamarindo where it stops in the perfect spot for you to watch the sunset along with your newly found friends. Of course here is where you will probably take one of the best photos to post on your Instagram making everyone else jealous about you and not them being here in Costa Rica. Or maybe you could inspire them to come as well? You get back at the beach as soon as the sun sets so a little bit before everything turns super dark. Hopefully you have exchanged WhatsApp or Facebook with some people as we did and you can hang out later on to do something fun with them.

Rincon de la vieja National Park Tour[/cmsmasters_heading][cmsmasters_text animation_delay=”0″]

The full day combo tour is really something extra. The tour includes up to 7 activities in 1 action packed day that starts at 7 in the morning with the transport from Tamarindo and you get back around 4-5 pm. The whole day you have your own personal guide asking all of your questions and making you feel 100% safe. The drive to Rincon de la Vieja takes around 1,5 hour and you start the day with 8 ziplines where you go over the river and see a lot of nature and maybe other people who is doing the white water rafting that you are going to do later. After the Zipline you can choose if you want to do the rappelling and climbing or if you want to skip it. If you feel pretty confident that you have some strength I really think you should do it! I did I it and sure it was a challenge and my arms hurt a lot afterwards but it was a lot of fun. The next thing on the list is FOOD. By this time you are super hungry and the buffet you get is all you can imagine it to be. Pasta, rice, beans, meat, salad, juice, soup, dessert, everything! I am a vegetarian and I was more than satisfied. The next thing your do is horseback riding, the horses are super calm and well fed and they truly seem to have a good life which is not always a guarantee here in Costa Rica. The horses takes you to your next adventure, white water rafting! The white water rafting on this tour is kind of calm so do not be afraid. You go with one guide and it be honest he basically does all the work so you can enjoy the nature even more. On the rafting they stop at one place where you can cliff jump if you want. After the rafting it is spa time! For an hour or so you finally have time to relax and recuperate from the day. Start with the sauna to open up your pores, continue with putting mud all over your skin and then take a swim in the river to rinse it of. Finish with the hot springs and feel how it has been a long awesome adventurous day. This is a great tour if you want to do a lot but maybe you do not have that much time in Costa Rica. And, fun fact: when me and Sofie did this tour the couple that we did it with got engaged! So you never know what will happen…

Tamarindo Snorkeling Tour [/cmsmasters_heading][cmsmasters_text animation_delay=”0″]

I don’t know anyone who does not enjoy snorkeling, I mean who does not like the water and all the life that lives down there? On this snorkeling Tour you go to Catalina’s Island and you can see manta rays, butterfly fish, angel fish and turtles and of course other fish as well. The tour is a half day and you can choose if you want to do it in the morning or in the afternoon. Some cookies, fruit and water is included, but if you feel like that’s not going to be enough for 4-5 hours I really recommend bringing some more food. You go on the same boat as the people doing the scuba dive, you are on the same spot except they just go deeper. This is a cheaper and more simple activity compared to diving. Diving has a lot of security rules and training before going in the water and can, for some people, be kind of scary and that is why I recommend the snorkeling before the scuba diving. If you are a family or a group of friends you all can be on the same boat but some of you can do diving and the others can do snorkeling if that is the case.

Tamarindo Horseback Riding[/cmsmasters_heading][cmsmasters_text animation_delay=”0″]

Another great tour is the horseback riding which you do in Brasilito which is a 20-30 minute drive from Tamarindo. This tour is, again, one of those tours that I recommend everyone to do, even if you are kind of scared to horses or animals because the horses here are SO well trained and have a lot of experience with all kinds of tourists. We here at Iguana have picked out the beat tours we think there is close to Tamarindo and therefore we can guarantee that these horses are well fed and taken care of which we think is really important. The horses does exactly what they are supposed to do and are really calm however, when me and Sofie went we wanted a little more “spicy” horses since we have over 10 years experience with horseback riding. The horses we got was a bit faster and well, not as beginner horses as the others, therefore we can say that this horseback riding tour is great for experienced riders as well. While riding, you are on Brasilito beach, in the forest and on smaller roads, sometimes ATVs pass by and the horses are completely used to them. Me and Sofie galloped on the beach but that is optional (even dough I truly recommend doing it!). This tour I think is best to do at 3 pm because it takes two hours and then if you want you can stay at Brasilito which is beautiful, maybe have dinner and enjoy the sunset from another place than your usual spot.

Tamarindo Estuary Tour[/cmsmasters_heading][cmsmasters_text animation_delay=”0″]

The Estuary Tour we have is one of the tours I book the most for people that come in to the shop because it is such a calm, easy and enjoyable tour and you do not have to do anything, just sit back and relax and watch the Mangrove forest and it is animals. The boat you go with is in the river that is between Tamarindo beach and Playa Grande so it is not a long ride to get there which is comfortable compared to other tours where you usually have to drive for quite some time before you get there. On the estuary tour you can see a lot of different birds, monkeys, crabs, the mangrove forest with all of its nature and even crocodiles! Of course nothing is guaranteed since we do not control the nature but the guides really do their best so that you will be able to see as much as possible. I recommend you to do this tour in the afternoon around 3-4 because then you come back in perfect time for the sunset around 5.30 which is beautiful both from the boat and that part of the beach when you walk back to Tamarindo along the beach. But if you want to be even more sure to see the crocodiles it is better to go in the morning on a day when the tide is quite low since that is when they usually come up of the water.

These are the top 5 tours i thing you should really consider doing while in Tamarindo, I get that 5 tours can be to much and to expensive but at least now you have my best tips and can choose one of them if you want.
