Costa Rica with Kids
Costa Rica is known as a backpackers’ paradise but it’s also a great place for a family vacation. Taking your kids to Costa Rica is like taking them to giant playground where the parents can play, too! A family vacation to Costa Rica can be as relaxing or as adventure-packed as you like, but the best vacations combine both elements. Spending time in Costa Rica is a great way to bond as a family and the different trips that you can put together can be enjoyed by everyone.
The best way to enjoy Costa Rica is to travel to several locations. This tiny, tropical country has a lot to offer and seeing it all isn’t possible, even if you have several weeks. Take some time to research the different parts of the country and choose a couple destinations that you’d like to explore. Costa Rica has lots of different regions and climates and traveling to a few will give your family a chance to experience one of the most bio-diverse locations in the world.
Many people that visit Costa Rica decide to spend part of their vacation in San Jose, the capital, and the surrounding central valley area. The mountain region, home to Monteverde, Costa Rica’s cloud forest, is another favorite spot for family vacations. The large national park is a great place for hiking and horseback riding. Zip lining courses are a fun and exciting way to see this lush landscape and as long as the little ones aren’t that little, everyone can zip line. The climate is much cooler in this region than other parts of Costa Rica so if you’re planning on spending some time up here, make sure and pack more than just beach clothes.
No trip to Costa Rica would be complete without spending some time at the beach. The beaches of Costa Rica are stunning and whether you’re looking for deserted stretches of sand or packed popular beaches where all the locals hang out, you can find it all. On the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica you and your family can participate in all kinds of activities from stand up paddle boarding to dolphin and whale watching, snorkeling and scuba diving to sport fishing, and of course, Costa Rica’s most famous past time, surfing.
Tamarindo Beach is one of the best spots for a family surf vacation. The area is home to lots of different breaks so everyone can find a wave suited for their age and experience. Surf schools and surf camps offers packages and lessons to get everyone standing up on their board. Taking a family lesson is an awesome bonding experience. And, after a day of surfing you and your kids can enjoy the natural beauty of Costa Rica, spotting monkeys, sloths, toucans, and iguanas in the trees right by the beach.
A family vacation to Costa Rica is a great chance to get away from it all and enjoy the natural playground. Spend time with your kids in the giant park that is Costa Rica and make memories to last a lifetime.
