Can you believe we have almost made it to the end of 2020? It has been a year full of ups and downs and curveballs from all directions, and I don’t think any of us could have guessed how everything would turn out at the beginning of the year. But here we are – as things slowly return to normalcy, we are absolutely thrilled to announce our official re-opening date of November 15th. The countdown is on! And the wait is over – it is finally possible to get back on a plane and book a dreamy Tamarindo vacation package. Here are all the must-know details for travel, protocols, and promotions we have going on to celebrate our return!
So how is travel going to look in this new age moving forward? Although Tamarindo with Corona Virus looks a bit different, it is still the same gorgeous gem it has always been and has been named one of the best places to visit post-pandemic.
Since August 1, Costa Rica has gradually allowed tourists from select countries and states to come and visit. Since November 1st, anyone who meets a series of requirements can visit Costa Rica! We are starting to see more and more tourists arrive as the flights are increasing. In fact, according to the Travel Tracker Adara, warm-weather destinations such as Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and the Virgin Islands are some of the most booked destinations for the holidays!
The entry requirements are specific and carefully thought out, but with a bit of planning, they are easy to follow. Originally, Costa Rica required a COVID test but have since pulled that back and only require the following. With simple protocols as these, warm weather, and reasonable flights Costa Rica is becoming a hot destination!
- Purchase travel medical insurance that covers COVID-19 related hospitalization and unexpected lodging expenses.
- Complete an online epidemiological form, known as the Health Pass.

Upon completing the Health Pass, the website will generate a QR Code that you must save and show Costa Rican Immigration Officials upon arrival. Take a screenshot of this code or use the download button to save a copy to your device. A copy will also be emailed to you.
Your flight experience will vary by airline, but you can expect mask requirements for the duration of the flight. Some airlines have been blocking out middle seats or otherwise spacing out passengers, but everyone is doing it a little differently. However, cleanliness and sanitation are of the utmost importance and you can feel confident knowing that your safety is the priority for all of us!
Although it takes a bit more thought, all of these protocols are in place to keep travel possible, beaches open, and the country of Costa Rica safe and healthy so that tourists and locals alike can get back to normal and enjoy everything that Costa Rica has to offer. Costa Rica handled the pandemic with great ease, enforcing an early lockdown, and keeping their case numbers low. It is something to be proud of, and it is important to keep it up so that things just keep getting better! With just a little bit of planning ahead and making sure you meet the requirements, you can have a quick, easy, stress-free arrival in Costa Rica.

While San Jose is also a good option, it just takes a bit longer to get from the airport to our location, sometimes also adding extra costs. But Liberia is just a short 1-hour drive from our hotel and surf shop, and we also have drivers and shuttle options that we can help you out with! Liberia airport has been doing a great job of keeping things safe during this time. They have been extremely careful to follow all protocols and work with all of the airlines flying in to make sure the whole experience is seamless, safe, and clean!

American Airlines has one-way flights from LAX to LIR from November 15th through Christmas starting at just $192!
Or, arrive from New York on United or American through the same dates for $175.
If you are looking to travel at the beginning of December from Miami, there are United and Air Canada flights starting at $162! With the wide variety of airline and flight options all working tirelessly to make sure their flights are efficient and safe, there is really no excuse to not get down here and soak up the sun as soon as possible!
Once you touch down, we will do everything we can to give you the best Tamarindo vacation package! We are following all of the protocols that the government has put forward including wearing masks, socially distancing, and providing sanitation gel at the shop entrance and at the hotel reception counter. For hotel stays, we have a detailed self-check-in system to minimize personal contact, and we are keeping the dorm room closed until further notice. Private groups are encouraged, and we will be doing our best to keep groups separate both in the surf shop and in the hotel.
